“I embrace and work with my shadow side and much as I do my light creating a stronger, brighter, and more balanced version of myself.”
It feels good to bask in the warmth of our own light and see how accepting others are of us when we shine. The light in us is palatable, exciting, perhaps exotic as it has become the new electric buzzword. It’s intoxicating and easy to slide on like the latest trendy designer jacket. The love of the façade is what we have to watch out for. The truth is, the work on our shadow side is what fortifies us. It’s also scary as hell, and we tend to run from it because, in all honesty, it doesn’t feel pleasant. It unearths all of our toxicity and pain and leaves us to work through the mess with a hint of promise after it’s all said and done. That is the beauty of the challenge. Doing the work, being stuck in the muck, yet having the conviction that at the end of the tunnel is healing if we honor that work. Working through the darkness will only increase our light. It’s what will make the force in us strong and undeniable. The dark is as much a part of us as the light and will always exist in some form or degree. The idea isn’t to eradicate our darkness but to produce balance through temperance with both of those aspects within ourselves.
- No one is all good or bad. A good person can do a bad thing, and a bad person can do a good thing.
- Don’t allow self-righteous indignation to enable you to forget that you too have hurt and wronged others.
- Unearthing wounds no matter the type is scary. Create a support system, even if it’s one person to sit with you in your pain when needed.
- Say to yourself in the mirror every day, I love you, and it will be okay.
Lotus Medicine: The Lotus flower grows in muddy water to then rise above the water to bloom with grace and beauty. It is our gentle reminder that we can all do the work, grow in and from the darkness, and when it’s time radiate superbly for the world to witness.
